What Do Offices Have In Common?

byAlma Abell

Every office has one thing in common regardless of the daily tasks that take place; they all need to be kept cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. The people who work in offices do not have the time nor do they want to clean the office themselves, thus outsourcing the task to a company that provides janitorial services in Maryland is typically a necessity. The tasks that are taken on by the janitorial company are those considered routine and need to be done daily as well as tasks that only need to be done once in a while.

Any office that has several employees needs to be kept clean, offices that are open to the public are especially in need of regular cleaning. Locations that must be kept in good order are doctors and dentists offices, lawyer’s offices and government buildings to name but a few. A clean office environment is not only important for health reasons; a clean office makes a good impression on visitors. The more traffic that goes through an office on a daily basis will have an impact on the services required and the number of personnel to do the job.

Many janitorial services in Maryland offer to undertake the typical tasks that need to be done daily, these tasks include sweeping, vacuuming and dusting the surfaces. The typical chores also include removing the trash and keeping the restrooms in impeccable condition.

There are also tasks that need to be done but not at the same frequency as sweeping, vacuuming, etc, however they are equally important. Many companies are quite fastidious and want to see that the windows in the offices are kept clean, especially those that face public areas. Of course, windows do not have to be washed on a daily basis but they should be attended to on a schedule. Dusting the office furniture and fixtures is a daily task, cleaning exhaust fans are something that would be scheduled.

Janitorial services in Maryland can be called for when a specific task needs to be taken care of. It is not irregular that one or two people offices use janitorial services for window cleaning or pain touch-up while performing the daily chores as part of their routine. Janitorial service company’s also often have divisions that take on serious clean-up such as one might expect after a flood or fire while others offer full preventive maintenance services.

years in the business the company prides itself on the high level of customer retention which is considered the benchmark for companies that offer janitorial services.

Apple introduces iPhone and Apple TV

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Apple Inc. today has introduced the much-anticipated iPhone at the Macworld Conference in San Francisco.

The iPhone is claimed to be “a revolutionary mobile phone” as stated on the Apple website. The device appears to be running a mobile version of the Apple operating system Mac OSX. It is approximately the same size as a 5th generation iPod, it has a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen display that is used to access all features of the phone including number dial, as well as making phone calls. The iPhone plays music, movies, displays pictures and is able to connect to a wireless network.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the device by walking onto the stage and taking the iPhone out of his jeans pocket. During his 2 hour speech he stated that “Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone, We are going to make history today”.

Today Apple also released their Media Center device – Apple TV. It will directly compete with Microsoft’s Media Center operating system. Apple has taken a different approach to the media center market; rather than storing content (such as movies, music and photos) on the device, Apple TV connects to a computer (Mac and Windows) over a wirless network connection and plays all content stored on that computer. This makes it substantially easier for users to organize their media content.

‘Bright’ idea lights its way to win NASA contest

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

NASA Tech Briefs INSIDER newsletter 02/05/08 reports that the winner of the $20,000 first prize in the agency’s “Create the Future” contest is an invention called “Litroenergy”, the luminous output of micro particle “Litrospheres.” Their self-luminance reportedly endures for over 12 years. The spheres are inexpensive, making them useful in many ways. The emitted light is said to be equivalent to a 40 watt bulb, sufficient for reading.

The invention is reported to safely encapsulate a small quantity of electron-emitting tritium with light emitting phosphors inside a robust microscopic sphere. Mixed into paints, plastic films or adhesive tape the spheres can be applied to surfaces for under a dollar per square foot. The maker suggests they will find first use in safety applications such as exit signage and aircraft corridor marking.

Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of PETA, on animal rights and the film about her life

Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of PETA, on animal rights and the film about her life

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

Last night HBO premiered I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA. Since its inception, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has made headlines and raised eyebrows. They are almost single-handedly responsible for the movement against animal testing and their efforts have raised the suffering animals experience in a broad spectrum of consumer goods production and food processing into a cause célèbre.

PETA first made headlines in the Silver Spring monkeys case, when Alex Pacheco, then a student at George Washington University, volunteered at a lab run by Edward Taub, who was testing neuroplasticity on live monkeys. Taub had cut sensory ganglia that supplied nerves to the monkeys’ fingers, hands, arms, legs; with some of the monkeys, he had severed the entire spinal column. He then tried to force the monkeys to use their limbs by exposing them to persistent electric shock, prolonged physical restraint of an intact arm or leg, and by withholding food. With footage obtained by Pacheco, Taub was convicted of six counts of animal cruelty—largely as a result of the monkeys’ reported living conditions—making them “the most famous lab animals in history,” according to psychiatrist Norman Doidge. Taub’s conviction was later overturned on appeal and the monkeys were eventually euthanized.

PETA was born.

In the subsequent decades they ran the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty against Europe’s largest animal-testing facility (footage showed staff punching beagle puppies in the face, shouting at them, and simulating sex acts while taking blood samples); against Covance, the United State’s largest importer of primates for laboratory research (evidence was found that they were dissecting monkeys at its Vienna, Virginia laboratory while the animals were still alive); against General Motors for using live animals in crash tests; against L’Oreal for testing cosmetics on animals; against the use of fur for fashion and fur farms; against Smithfield Foods for torturing Butterball turkeys; and against fast food chains, most recently against KFC through the launch of their website kentuckyfriedcruelty.com.

They have launched campaigns and engaged in stunts that are designed for media attention. In 1996, PETA activists famously threw a dead raccoon onto the table of Anna Wintour, the fur supporting editor-in-chief of Vogue, while she was dining at the Four Seasons in New York, and left bloody paw prints and the words “Fur Hag” on the steps of her home. They ran a campaign entitled Holocaust on your Plate that consisted of eight 60-square-foot panels, each juxtaposing images of the Holocaust with images of factory farming. Photographs of concentration camp inmates in wooden bunks were shown next to photographs of caged chickens, and piled bodies of Holocaust victims next to a pile of pig carcasses. In 2003 in Jerusalem, after a donkey was loaded with explosives and blown up in a terrorist attack, Newkirk sent a letter to then-PLO leader Yasser Arafat to keep animals out of the conflict. As the film shows, they also took over Jean-Paul Gaultier‘s Paris boutique and smeared blood on the windows to protest his use of fur in his clothing.

The group’s tactics have been criticized. Co-founder Pacheco, who is no longer with PETA, called them “stupid human tricks.” Some feminists criticize their campaigns featuring the Lettuce Ladies and “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ads as objectifying women. Of their Holocaust on a Plate campaign, Anti-Defamation League Chairman Abraham Foxman said “The effort by PETA to compare the deliberate systematic murder of millions of Jews to the issue of animal rights is abhorrent.” (Newkirk later issued an apology for any hurt it caused). Perhaps most controversial amongst politicians, the public and even other animal rights organizations is PETA’s refusal to condemn the actions of the Animal Liberation Front, which in January 2005 was named as a terrorist threat by the United States Department of Homeland Security.

David Shankbone attended the pre-release screening of I Am An Animal at HBO’s offices in New York City on November 12, and the following day he sat down with Ingrid Newkirk to discuss her perspectives on PETA, animal rights, her responses to criticism lodged against her and to discuss her on-going life’s work to raise human awareness of animal suffering. Below is her interview.

Goatskin Rugs: The Perfect Compliment To Your Wooden Floors

By Simon Tuft

If youve been trying to decorate your home or flat, youve likely find that its not necessarily an easy thing to do. You may have a few ideas in your head as to how you want your room to look, and then that idea changes as you find pictures in magazines that you absolutely adore. If youre trying to decorate your home, the first thing to do is to take a deep breath. Next, figure out what things you like and which things you dont. One classic accent piece that was used years ago has made its way back into the modern design scene is the goatskin rug. They make a great accent piece for almost any living room, dining room, or bedroom.

Goatskin Rugs

Many years ago goatskin rugs could be found in every high class home. They were considered to be an item of elegance and of class. Then they fell out of favour as people began enjoying a more modern look. Now, however, that look is back and these beautiful rugs have become popular once again. If youre trying to decorate a room, you may want to think about adding a goatskin rug into your dcor, especially if youve got a lot of hardwood in your home or flat.

Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are highly sought after by people who are purchasing homes because they look absolutely amazing. While they look beautiful, however, they are definitely not the warmest flooring choice. If you live in the north, hardwood floors may actually seem like a detriment to you, as they can be extremely cold in the mornings and evenings. Having goatskin rugs in your home is a great way to bring some warmth to the room as well as to your feet!

Hardwood floors and goatskin rugs go well for a variety of reasons. First, it is nice to have a few warm spots on your floor for your feet to hit on those chilly mornings and frigid evenings. Moreover, though, they often make the perfect color companion for your hardwood floors. It doesnt matter if you have lightly stained floors or darker floors you can find a goatskin rug that will go perfectly. If you have a darkly stained hardwood floor, try sticking with the solid white goatskin rugs, while a lighter floor can go with a darker skinned rug. You may even be able to find dyed choices to match unique decors.

One great thing about goatskin rugs is that they arent large. An adult sized skin is about 2 feet by 3 feet in dimension, which makes it a perfect size for an accent rug and makes it fit in almost any sized area. Some even use these rugs in their hallway as a way to help to add beauty and a slip-resistant surface. If youve been looking for a few great accent pieces, goatskin rugs may be exactly what you need to make your room look perfect.

Need A Car Accident Lawyer For A Case Involving A Pedestrian?

byAlma Abell

Were you involved in a pedestrian/automobile accident, and need the knowledgeable guidance of an attorney? In many car accident cases involving pedestrians, pedestrians sustain severe if not fatal injuries, depending on the circumstances of the collision. Negligence is often the core component of such cases, either on the part of a driver or pedestrian. Both drivers and pedestrians are expected to adhere to the laws of the road; however, an instance of carelessness can lead to a serious accident.

Driver ResponsibilityDrivers in car accidents involving pedestrians can be held accountable for a number of reasons. Not giving pedestrians the right of way, taking their eyes off of the road, or attempting to multi-task while driving are some common instances of driver negligence. Naturally, a pedestrian is at much greater risk of being severely injured, especially if the driver isn’t acknowledging the speed limit. If you or someone you love was injured by a reckless driver and needs a car accident lawyer, Georgia legal professionals assist clients with proving fault in their cases and working toward a fair settlement.

When Pedestrians Are LiableNegligence in automobile and pedestrian accidents is not exclusive to drivers, and can also be attributed to pedestrians. For example, if a pedestrian runs into oncoming traffic without looking and giving drivers no time to react and causing an accident, it’s likely they’d be held accountable for any injuries and damages. Because it can be difficult to pinpoint who’s at fault in accident cases, it’s always a smart idea to consult a car accident lawyer. Georgia personal injury attorneys can provide insight into any questions you may have about negligence and the role it plays in your claim.

Adept Legal AssistanceIn cases involving an injured pedestrian, it can be difficult to determine which traffic laws were broken or who acted carelessly without the guidance of a skilled attorney. Trying to navigate a personal injury claim alone or with inexperienced representation hardly ever yields favorable results. Whether you were struck by an inattentive driver while crossing the street or a careless pedestrian caused you to swerve into another vehicle, a trained car accident lawyer will provide constructive advice and dependable support.

The Law Firm of Kathy McArthur offers adept legal representation to Georgia clients in need of a personal injury attorney.
