US Presidential candidates offer condolences to family of Benazir Bhutto

Thursday, December 27, 2007

The United States Presidential candidates offered condolences to Benazir Bhutto‘s family and to the country of Pakistan today. Multiple candidates offered up messages about this former foreign leader.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Bhutto was killed in a suicide attack as she was leaving a political rally in the city of Rawalpindi. At least 20 people died in the attack, local reports say. The attack has been condemned internationally.

Slate columnist John Dickerson commented that “Moments after former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s death was announced, I was getting e-mails from campaign aides, political obsessives, and the campaigns themselves. The candidates are quick to express their sadness, of course, but everyone is moving so fast because they’re trying to muscle into the news cycle more than ever. There’s only a week to go before the Iowa caucuses, and this murder lands right in the middle of a key issue in both parties. The ability to react to unpredictable news in a crazy world is at the heart of both primary debates.”

Democratic Senator Joe Biden was first, holding a press conference at noon EST today, at the Des Moines Marriott hotel, solely to speak on the topic.

This is a terrible day. My heart goes out to Benazir Bhutto’s family, friends and followers.

Like her father before her, Benazir Bhutto worked her whole life – and gave her life – to help Pakistan become a democratic, secular and modern Muslim country. She was a woman of extraordinary courage who returned to Pakistan in the face of death threats and even after an assassination attempt the day of her return, she did not flinch. It was a privilege to know her these many years and to call her a friend.

I am convinced Ms. Bhutto would have won free and fair elections next week. The fact that she was by far Pakistan’s most popular leader underscores the fact that there is a vast, moderate majority in Pakistan that must have a clear voice in the system. Her assassination makes it all the more urgent that Pakistan return to a democratic path.

This fall, I twice urged President Musharraf to provide better security for Ms. Bhutto and other political leaders – I wrote him before her return and after the first assassination attempt in October. The failure to protect Ms. Bhutto raises a lot of hard questions for the government and security services that must be answered.

I know that Benazir’s followers will be tempted to lash out in anger and violence. I urge them to remain calm – and not play into the hands of the forces of destruction. I urge Pakistan’s leaders to open a fully accountable and transparent investigation. We must find out who was behind this and bring those responsible to justice. And the United States should offer any assistance necessary, including investigative teams, to get to the bottom of this horror.

The way to honor Benazir Bhutto is to uphold the values for which she gave her life: democracy, moderation and social justice. I join with the Pakistani people in mourning the loss of a dear friend.

U.S. Senator Sam Brownback, formerly the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee with responsibility for Southeast Asia, commented:

I offer my deepest condolences for the loss of Benazir Bhutto and to the families of those killed today. This is a terrible loss to her supporters, the people of Pakistan and for democracy. I hope and pray that that the people of Pakistan and President Musharraf can avoid further bloodshed and continue down the road to democracy. Pakistan has been a good friend to the United States in fighting fundamentalist terrorism, and I sincerely hope we can continue to work together. Pakistan needs to continue to work toward a peaceful, stable and democratic nation if they hope to maintain our strong friendship.

Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton commented from western Iowa:

Today the world once again is reminded of the dangers facing those who pursue democracy and free elections, in Pakistan and elsewhere in areas that are rife with conflict and violence and extremism and anti-democratic forces at work. I have known Benazir Bhutto for a dozen years and I knew her as a leader. I knew her as someone willing to take risks.

I hope that if there is any opportunity for the government and people of Pakistan to respond to this tragedy appropriately, it would be to move more steadfastly and determinately toward democracy. She has given her life for that hope, and I know that the people of our country stand in solidarity with those who believe as we do in the rights of people to be heard at the ballot box.

26-year-member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Chris Dodd commented:

“Today’s news from Pakistan is both shocking and saddening. As a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, I have had the opportunity to travel to Pakistan and come to know Former Prime Minister Bhutto very well over the years. I spoke to her personally several weeks ago and have stayed in close contact with her since. She was a respected leader who played an important part in moving Pakistan toward democracy.

As we recognize the loss of a leader today, we must also recognize the implication of today’s tragedy to the security of the region and to that of the United States.

At this critical time we must do everything in our power to help Pakistan continue the path toward democracy and full elections. Our first priority must be to ensure stability in this critical nuclear state.

The United States should also stand ready to provide assistance in investigating this heinous act. And as Pakistan perpetrators to justice, it should also demonstrate that it will not allow such violence to derail democracy and proceed with elections in a timely manner.

On his blog, former Arkansas Governor Republican Mike Huckabee commented:

I am deeply troubled by the news accounts this morning of Pakistani opposition leader and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination in a suicide attack. This is devastating news for the people of Pakistan, and my prayers go out to them as we follow developments regarding this dire situation.

The terrible violence surrounding Pakistan’s upcoming election stands in stark contrast to the peaceful transition of power that we embrace in our country through our Constitution. On this sad day, we are reminded that while our democracy has flaws, it stands as a shining beacon of hope for nations and people around the world who seek peace and opportunity through self-government.

Benazir Bhutto’s assasination should also stand as a stark reminder for those who doubt the nature of our enemy.

I believe that we are currently engaged in a world war. Radical Islamic fascists have declared war on our country and our way of life. They have sworn to annihilate each of us who believe in a free society, all in the name of a perversion of religion and an impersonal god. We go to great extremes to save lives, they go to great extremes to take them. This war is not a conventional war, and these terrorists are not a conventional enemy. We must fight the war on terror with the intensity and single-mindedness that it deserves.

Democrat Dennis Kucinich commented:

This is a very dangerous moment for the world. Prime Minister Bhutto represented the forces of reform and the hope for an end to repression in a troubled region, and her death is a major loss to those efforts.

This terrible tragedy also underscores the need for the United States to adopt a new foreign policy toward the entire region because our current policy is all wrong. Our interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan has opened wide the doors of repression and violence. At this very moment, we should be working with leaders of the region to convene a meeting at the highest levels to begin a new effort towards stabilization and peace.

The United States must take a new direction in Pakistan and throughout the region. I met her several times, both in Washington and New York. She was deeply and genuinely dedicated to Pakistan. This is a tragic loss.

Republican John McCain commented:

The death of Benazir Bhutto underscores yet again the grave dangers we face in the world today and particularly in countries like Pakistan, where the forces of moderation are arrayed in a fierce battle against those who embrace violent Islamic extremism. Given Pakistan’s strategic location, the international terrorist groups that operate from its soil, and its nuclear arsenal, the future of that country has deep implications for the security of the United States and its allies. America must stand on the right side of this ongoing struggle.

Republican Mitt Romney commented moments after the attack:

This points out again the extraordinary reality of global violent radical jihadism. We don’t know who is responsible for this attack, but there is no question that the violence we see throughout the world is violence which is not limited to Iran—excuse me, Iraq—and Afghanistan but is more global in nature.

Nutritional And Organoleptic Aspects Of Goat Milk

Nutritional properties and flavor

A very important food in the history of human nutrition, goat milk, after having registered a sharp decline in consumption at the beginning of the twentieth century, is now regaining its lost prestige. Its dietary-nutritional properties are noteworthy, so much to make it a valid substitute for traditional cow’s milk. The products made from goat milkare getting trendy among the people of the United States.

Compared to the latter, the lipid fraction of goat milk is distinguished by the smaller size of the lipid globules and by the higher content of short and medium-chain fatty acids. These characteristics make it on the one hand more digestible (due to the greater specific micellar surface available at the attack of lipases ) and the other hand tastier (the short-chain fatty acids give the food a particular aroma and flavor, not at all. welcome). We also remind you that this type of fatty acid is absorbed directly by the intestinal mucosa and from there conveyed to the liver. without following the typical metabolic path of fatty acids with higher carbon atoms (which involves their preventive release, in the form of lipoprotein aggregates called chylomicrons, into the lymphatic circulation).

Another interesting nutritional aspect concerning this category of fatty acids typical of goat’s milk (butyric, capric, caprylic, caproic, lauric ), is the absence of the atherogenic power that characterizes long-chain fatty acids and in particular palmitic. Although belonging to the saturated category, the short and medium-chain fatty acids present in goat milk has no negative effect on the body’s cholesterol level.

The protein milk goats are very similar to those of bovine milk; among the amino acids stands the higher content of taurine (the same substance present in many energy drinks and whose role and needs have not yet been fully clarified).

As for the nutritional microelements, goat’s milk has concentrations similar to those of cow’s milk, except for vitamin B12 which is present in much lower concentrations. Like its “opponent” it is therefore rich in calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and riboflavin.

Goat’s milk, food intolerances, and allergies

The differences listed so far are exclusive of a qualitative type since as a whole goat’s milk has a content of proteins, fats, and lactose very similar to that of cow’s milk (for this reason it is not suitable for those suffering from intolerance to cow’s milk). On the other hand, it should be emphasized that these characteristics also vary considerably according to the breed, the climate, but also the lactation stage and the foraging of the animal.

Like cow’s milk, goat’s milk, as it is, is not suitable as a substitute for maternal milk in the infant’s diet; in fact, there are considerable chemical and nutritional differences between the two.

In the presence of an allergy to cow’s milk, the same problem almost always exists also for goat’s milk; misinformation can therefore generate a lot of confusion. It is good to know that goat’s milk does not seem to have any advantages from an allergological point of view compared to cow’s (in the literature there are only timid hints on the possible “antiallergic” role of particular proteins, but no confirmations are available. in this regard).

For what has been said so far, goat milk is far from being that miraculous food painted by producers and traders. To say that in practice it is equivalent to that of a cow certainly does not mean diminishing its nutritional properties, given the extraordinary richness of nutritional principles that unites them. When combined with individual preferences, goat milk can therefore become an integral part of a varied, balanced, and healthy diet.

Some Final Words

Now you have got to know the nutritional and organoleptic aspects of goat milk. I am sharing this very important information so that every one of you should buygoat milk skincare productsor you make them at home quite easily. I use these products like goat milk bath bombs, they are amazing. Just try.

Ten-year-old computer glitch prevents delivery of 1,380 Canadian health results

Ten-year-old computer glitch prevents delivery of 1,380 Canadian health results

Sunday, May 24, 2009

The Saskatoon Health Region in Saskatchewan, Canada recently discovered a fax machine problem which had not relayed almost 1,500 X-rays, Computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, ultrasounds, and other medical imaging test results to doctors.

The fax machine is part of the automated Radiology Information System. An audit revealed that medical diagnostic tests involving results dating back a decade have been affected by the broken fax machine.

On May 6, a doctor called the health region officials seeking follow up on a patient’s report. Staff who delved into it, found that the report was not sent from the system.

Now, two weeks later, this same patient has still not been contacted by the health region.

“It has taken some time to work with the patient’s physician. That was important — to get more information and more detail because we want that patient’s physician to be involved in the discussion with the patient,” Dr. David Poulin, vice-president of medical affairs for The Saskatoon Health Region, said. “This is a system error and that’s just what it was — an error. This doesn’t reflect in any way on the quality of work regional staff have done and continue to do.”

An internal review revealed that, of 2.2 million diagnostic tests performed, at least 1,380 had not been sent out by the malfunctioning fax machine.

The health region will embark on contacting each of the 1,380 patients and their physicians to make sure that the results have been received and if any health care was compromised.

Patients can also contact the health region via a newly set up hotline to make enquiries.

“We think it would actually be good practice if physician offices could have a system to check whether they have received important reports,” said Poulin, “The common practice appears to be in many doctors’ offices, particularly family physician offices, that they don’t respond to the report until it arrives. So, they basically are waiting for the report to arrive in their office by fax and it’s at that point that they look at it and decide what action to take.”

City Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital and Royal University Hospital were the three city hospitals affected. Saskatoon has a population of roughly 233,923, and the hospitals also serve the surrounding rural areas.

Ironically the faulty fax machine was discovered the same week that provincial medical officials began to review approximately 70,000 radiology tests conducted in Yorkton. Officials there doubt the competence of the physician who first interpreted the radiology results.

Spanish smoking ban takes effect in bars and restaurants

Sunday, January 2, 2011

A ban on smoking in public places has gone into force in Spain today. Bars, restaurants, and nightclubs will now be smoke-free across the country.

The Spanish government had introduced voluntary regulations on smoking in 2006 which allowed for venues to ban smoking, but few chose to do so. The 2006 law also banned smoking at workplaces.

Spain now joins Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, and Italy in banning smoking in enclosed public places.

Leire Pajin, the Spanish health minister, said the law marked “a decisive step in the defence of the health of the Spanish people”, but some industry representatives have expressed concern that business will go down following the ban.

Tattoos Are Gaining Worldwide Popularity}

Tattoos Are Gaining Worldwide Popularity

by

Kim F. LokeTattoos have become very popular in recent years although they are expensive and painful to obtain. Tattoos are permanent marks on the skin that are made by skilled craftsman with sharp objects. Tattoos have been around for many years, and in some cultures, these are distinctive marks that are relevant to the local area. Women in the Middle East have had markings on their skin for many years. These tattoos have significant meaning to all of the people in the area. Some Japanese people also had tattoos on their faces.People in other countries have had tattoos including people in the Philippines, Borneo, Cambodia and China. Tattoos have appeared in many different cultures and countries although the attitudes toward tattoos vary from one country to another. Some of the tattoos are merely considered to be marks of beauty while in other countries these may have significant meaning to all of the people of that culture. These designs on the skin could be a sign of age, marriage or tribal affiliation depending on the culture. Tattoos have also been used to mark people for nefarious reasons such as those used by the Nazis. Tattoos Are Now Made With Tattoo MachinesThe procedures for creating tattoos vary in different places, but in the modern world there are tattoo machines (or tattoo guns) specially made to create tattoo on the skin. Tattoo machines can create many different designs according to the customer request. Rather than using the one needle that might have been used in the past, these modern tattoo machines use many needles to insert the pigments under the skin. These tattoo needles work quickly to create an image on customer skin. Although the procedure is painful, the pain involved is bearable. Tattoo machines are operated by professional tattoo artist who realize the importance of sanitation when inserting these needles to create the preferred tattoo designs. The modern day tattoos can come in a variety of colors, and there are some people who have tattoos applied over a large percentage of their bodies. Other people want small, delicate tattoos. These people often want the tattoos that they can easily conceal when participating in formal activities. They might conceal these tattoos from their employers at all times. Once created these tattoos are difficult to remove although modern techniques using lasers make removal possible. Unfortunately, removing tattoos can be very expensive and uncomfortable. Removing these tattoos might require many visits to a tattoo removing specialist.101TattooKits

Settlement returns billions to California schools funding

Settlement returns billions to California schools funding

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

The state’s teachers and schools chief Jack O’Connell have settled their lawsuit against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and, as a result, billions of dollars in school funding O’Connell and the teachers claimed the governor misappropriated during the state’s fiscal crisis will be returned to the schools.

“The restoration of funding to California school districts is very positive news,” New Haven schools Superintendent Pat Jaurequi told the James Logan Courier.

“This is a day for celebration in schools throughout California. When this lawsuit was filed, I promised that I would fight up and down the state until the funding owed to our schools was restored,” O’Connell, the state superintendent of Public Instruction, said in a statement last week. “I also promised I would give the Governor credit for doing the right thing if he restored this critical funding. Today, I want to thank Governor Schwarzenegger for working with the education community to invest wisely in our schools — the best investment we can make in California’s future.”

“This is a good thing for our schools and community colleges throughout California,” said Barbara E. Kerr, president of the California Teachers Association, one of the parties to the lawsuit. “Having all the money owed to our schools under Proposition 98 and the governor’s agreement of 2004 restored to our students is the news we’ve been waiting for.

In a statement regarding the settlement, Schwarzenegger said, “I am pleased to announce a resolution that will put the dispute regarding Proposition 98 funding behind us and allow us to invest an additional $3 billion in schools in a way that best helps our students.”

Proposition 98 is an amendment to the state Constitution, passed in 1988, that established a minimum funding level or guarantee for K-12 education and community colleges. O’Connell and the California Teachers Association sued Schwarzenegger and the director for the California Department of Finance last summer after when they diverted billions of dollars earmarked for the schools under Prop. 98 to overcome budget deficits that were crippling California, violating an agreement made with educators the previous year.

The agreement restores funding Proposition 98 funding that was due, but not provided in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 fiscal years. The Governor’s May Budget Revision will include $2 billion and language that provides an additional $3 billion to be paid in installments between fiscal year 2006-07 and fiscal year 2013-14, or until paid in full.

In addition to the settlement funds, Schwarzenegger’s “May Budget Revision,” announced last week, also directs billions more of the state’s money to schools. Schwarzenegger said bulging state coffers, filled by unexpected tax revenues, allowed him to budget an extra 8.1 billion for schools, for a total of $55.1 billion-an over 17% overall funding increase from 2004-2005.

The settlement and the new budget figures “will allow us to make good on the debts to schools created through the recent lean years and to make important new investments in public education,” said O’Connell.

Schwarzenegger had some ideas about how the money should be spent. “For K-12 schools, I propose that we concentrate these funds to improve instruction in schools with low academic achievement. We should direct the funds to the classroom level for such things as lowering class size, attracting and supporting quality school leadership and fully credentialed and experienced teachers, supporting greater involvement of parents, providing more counselors in high schools, and increasing quality professional development, instructional materials, improved instruction and accountability.” he said.

Although pleased by the outcome of the lawsuit, Jaurequi was cautious about predicting its effect in New Haven “ It is significant to note that two-thirds of the new funding is one-time in nature and is not an ongoing revenue stream,” she said.

“Although the budget process is far from over and we will likely differ on some of his budget priorities, I am happy to thank Governor Schwarzenegger for working with the education community to invest in public education,” said O’Connell, who’s been embroiled in controversy and litigation over the California High School Exit Exam in recent weeks.

“I am particularly pleased to see that the Governor has increased funding to expand remediation programs for students who are struggling to pass the California High School Exit Exam, and to pay for new summer and evening administrations of the Exam,” said O’Connell, who wrote the law requiring the exam when he was a state legislator in 1998, “ I also applaud the increase in funding to expand and improve student nutrition programs giving more students the opportunity to make healthier food choices on campus. In addition, I am very happy to see additional funding for high school counselors. Our state currently has the lowest ratio of counselors to students in the nation. This is a statistic we need to improve upon”.

Fire kills eleven at oil worker housing in Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia

Monday, August 31, 2015

A fire in the eastern Saudi city of Alkhobar tore through a housing complex for oil workers yesterday, killing eleven, according to civil officials.

The Radium complex is rented by oil firm Aramco for their employees. According to nearby resident Mohammed Siddique the fire broke out early in the morning. Siddique says the building contains locals, as well as Westerners and Asians. The cause is unclear but the civil defence ministry tweeted “Cars and furniture caught fire in the basement of one of the towers”.

Over 200 people were injured. Firefighters scaled the burning tower on ladders, and helicopters were on-scene. Other towers in the complex were evacuated. Thick smoke from the blaze complicated rescue efforts.

Aramco CEO Amin H. Nasser said the firm is “deeply saddened to learn of the fatalities and injuries. We offer heartfelt condolences to the families. Our immediate priority is to provide full support to those affected by this tragic incident.” Aramco, which produces and exports more crude oil than any competitor worldwide, say the fire is under investigation.

Why Control Accounting?

Why Control Accounting?

Many people wonder why the idea to regulate

accounting

is growing to be so popular. Due to past experiences with manipulating accounting stats, it is no wonder that accounting has been under so much scrutiny. This is the reason why so many people think it is time to regulate

accounting

, thanks to so many businesses not abiding by the rules set forth. Because of the many negative incidents that have occurred with different scandals and schemes, there has recently been a lot of mistrust from the public in the accounting area. To regulate accounting, will give confidence back to the public. Below are several of the advantages that will occur when we set better requirements to regulate accounting.

The vast majority of the public sense that accountants usually are functioning in the interest of their own company and the companies that they work for, instead of working to inform the public properly. Once you regulate accounting, this forbids any organization and accounting business to conceal the truths concerning the company and its economic condition from the public. The rules of accounting, can force companies and their accountants to be much more open and clear-cut about their financial transactions and show their legitimate financial situation.

When you regulate accounting, it will certainly play an important role in the stock market as well. Right now there are a lot of mixed feelings concerning investing in publicly traded companies, because of the abilities to hide a companies monetary stress. If you manage the accounting laws, then it will decrease the chances of a business being in a position to change any financial accounts shown to the public, which is a dilemma that has transpired in the past.

As soon as you control the accounting laws, you will hold corporations and public companies responsible for their own behavior. That is a very crucial component in regulating accounting practices. Having tougher laws in place to prevent fraud and to stop special favors, the public will be more reliable against fraud. To regulate the laws and regulations, will let not accounting firms and businesses alike, aware that they will certainly be held accountable for their activities. Not only will this give confidence back in the accounting industry, but it will furthermore discourage fraudulent activities in the accounting sector credited to the rigorous implications.

The most significant factor to control accounting laws, is to safeguard the general public. Whether or not it is a publicly traded company, or a company that gets a majority of opportunities from its workers, both alike will need to be safeguarded from fraudulent activities. This is extremely important and is exactly why the governing administration has learned to manage accounting and its regulations and procedures. It has been confirmed by past experience, to not have strong accounting guidelines in place and enforced, only actually leaves room to contribute to a disastrous outcome.

At this time there are many mixed emotions regarding the ideas to regulate accounting. However, despite the mixed opinions, the notion to regulate accounting is effective. It is not only the responsible thing to do, but it may also shield the public from businesses and deceitful pursuits that can happen. To never regulate accounting laws and practices may only give room to accumulate more doubtfulness in the accounting world.

Obama, Romney battle over foreign policy in final U.S. presidential debate

Obama, Romney battle over foreign policy in final U.S. presidential debate

Thursday, October 25, 2012

2012 US presidential election candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney took part Monday in their third and final presidential debate at Lynn University in Florida. The topic of the debate was foreign policy and the candidates discussed the Arab Spring, Iran, and Mali, among other issues.

Mr. Obama criticised Mr. Romney’s foreign policy positions as “all over the map”. “Every time you have offered an opinion you have been wrong.” “You said we should have gone into Iraq, despite the fact there were no weapons of mass destruction. You said we should still have troops in Iraq to this day. You said we shouldn’t be passing nuclear treaties with Russia.” Mr. Romney countered saying Mr. Obama had failed to take proper advantage of the Arab Spring: “I congratulate him on taking out Osama bin Laden and going after the leadership of al-Qaeda, but we can’t kill our way out of this mess”.

Mr. Romney said Mr. Obama was proposing military budget cuts. He said “the highest responsibility of the President of the United states … is to maintain the safety of the American people, and I will not cut our military budget by a trillion dollars… That in my view is making our future less certain and less secure”. Mr. Obama accused Mr. Romney of not properly understanding modern defense priorities. “You mention the navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets. Because the nature of the military has changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines”.

Well governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets. Because the nature of the military has changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines”.

Mr. Romney criticized his opponent for visiting the Middle East on an “apology tour”, and said he would be tougher with Iran. “I think from the very beginning, one of the challenges we’ve had with Iran is that they have looked at this administration and felt that the administration was not as strong as it needed to be. We’re four years closer to a nuclear Iran and we should not have wasted these four years.” Mr. Obama said he would stand with Israel against Iranian threats but added that the main national security concern was terrorist networks. He said his administration had focused on “those who actually killed us on 9/11” and said that under his leadership, “al-Qaeda’s core leadership has been decimated”. Mr. Romney said northern Mali had been taken over by “al-Qaeda-type individuals” .

Mr. Romney criticized China for “holding down artificially the value of their currency”. He added “on day one, I will label them a currency manipulator, which allows us to apply tariffs where they’re taking jobs.” Mr. Obama countered saying under Mr. Romney’s policy America would be “buying cars from China instead of selling cars to China”.

A poll, taken by CBS straight after the debate, indicated 53% of voters thought Mr. Obama had done better, while only 23% thought Mr. Romney had done better.

Both candidates now have plans for continued campaigning ahead of the election on November 6. Mr. Obama is to travel through Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Iowa, Colorado, and Nevada as well as appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in a two-day “America Forward Tour”. Mr. Romney is to hold two joint rallies with his vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan in Nevada and Colorado before going on to campaign in Iowa and Ohio. Mr. Romney’s advisers said he would also consider making a speech on government spending and debt in the next few days.

Wikinews interviews Steve Burke, U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate

Sunday, December 13, 2015

This article is a featured article. It is considered one of the best works of the Wikinews community. See Wikinews:Featured articles for more information.

Macomb, New York Councilman Steve Burke took some time to speak with Wikinews about his campaign for the U.S. Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nomination.

Burke, an insurance adjuster and farmer, was elected councilman in Brookhaven, New York in 1979. He left the town after being accused and found not guilty of bribery in the 1980s. Since 1987 he has served as Macomb councilman off-and-on and currently holds the post. From 1993 to 1996 and 1999 to 2002 he worked as chairman of the Democratic Party of St. Lawrence County, New York. Among his many political campaigns, Burke unsuccessfully sought the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 1992 and recently attempted to run for U.S. Congress in 2014 but too many of his ballot petition signatures were found invalid. Burke filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for president in the 2016 election on September 18, 2015 and has qualified for the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire Primary.

With Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn?, Burke discusses his political background, his 2016 presidential campaign, and his policy proposals.
