Commercial Carpet Is A Must For Your Commercial Area

By Stephen Robins

Carpets are used in many places to make a room or house look beautiful. Carpets which are used in commercial places are known as commercial carpets. In today’s world, which is hugely competitive, being successful in whatever you do is vital. There are many things that contribute towards making a business or any other venture successful. The interior of a place including the carpet, tiles or the area rugs are some of the things that help in giving professional look to a place. Your commercial place can be anything starting from an office to hotel to restaurant or something else.

There is a wide variety of commercial carpet available in the market and you can easily find the type you want to use in your office or any other commercial area. Depending on the kind of commercial place you have, you must make the choice of commercial carpet. Suppose if you have an office where you need your staff to work in complete silence, then you can opt for commercial carpets. The carpet which you use must be thick and of good quality. Well it is not that you will replace your commercial carpet every year. So make a smart choice about this as you are undertaking all this for the progress of your business.

The best part of using commercial carpet in your office or commercial place is that the carpets can mask footstep and other sounds. It can be very annoying for a person, who is completely immersed in his/her work and suddenly sounds of footstep or any other clattering noise disturbs you. The entire concentration of the person breaks and needless to say that work will indeed be affected because of this. The color, design and make of the commercial carpet are also important. Make an effort to choose commercial carpet in subdued color tones. Surely, you will not want your office to look garish with carpets of abnormally bright shade.

In your city, you will find several stores that sell commercial carpets, tiles and area rugs. Area rugs are not very commonly used in commercial outlets. However, certain exceptions are there. This can be used in some places like the reception area or some of the rooms in a hotel or restaurant. Getting commercial carpet, tiles and area rugs is not a difficult this. You can go to the store and choose the type of carpet that you want. Most carpets dealers have professionals working for them, who can help you in making an estimate. The professional can come to your office and provide an exact estimate of the amount of carpet which you will need. He can also tell the correct amount of money that you have to pay.

Keeping your commercial carpet clean and dust free is also important. So simply buying the commercial carpet is not sufficient, you must know the right method to keep the carpet clean. Try to buy commercial carpet which can resist liquid spillage. Controlling the spillage in a carpet is a tough job, so the best you can do is buy commercial carpet that is spill resistant, so that you do not have to worry about anything.

Saturn moon Enceladus may have salty ocean

Saturn moon Enceladus may have salty ocean

Thursday, June 23, 2011

NASA’s Cassini–Huygens spacecraft has discovered evidence for a large-scale saltwater reservoir beneath the icy crust of Saturn’s moon Enceladus. The data came from the spacecraft’s direct analysis of salt-rich ice grains close to the jets ejected from the moon. The study has been published in this week’s edition of the journal Nature.

Data from Cassini’s cosmic dust analyzer show the grains expelled from fissures, known as tiger stripes, are relatively small and usually low in salt far away from the moon. Closer to the moon’s surface, Cassini found that relatively large grains rich with sodium and potassium dominate the plumes. The salt-rich particles have an “ocean-like” composition and indicate that most, if not all, of the expelled ice and water vapor comes from the evaporation of liquid salt-water. When water freezes, the salt is squeezed out, leaving pure water ice behind.

Cassini’s ultraviolet imaging spectrograph also recently obtained complementary results that support the presence of a subsurface ocean. A team of Cassini researchers led by Candice Hansen of the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona, measured gas shooting out of distinct jets originating in the moon’s south polar region at five to eight times the speed of sound, several times faster than previously measured. These observations of distinct jets, from a 2010 flyby, are consistent with results showing a difference in composition of ice grains close to the moon’s surface and those that made it out to the E ring, the outermost ring that gets its material primarily from Enceladean jets. If the plumes emanated from ice, they should have very little salt in them.

“There currently is no plausible way to produce a steady outflow of salt-rich grains from solid ice across all the tiger stripes other than salt water under Enceladus’s icy surface,” said Frank Postberg, a Cassini team scientist at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

The data suggests a layer of water between the moon’s rocky core and its icy mantle, possibly as deep as about 50 miles (80 kilometers) beneath the surface. As this water washes against the rocks, it dissolves salt compounds and rises through fractures in the overlying ice to form reserves nearer the surface. If the outermost layer cracks open, the decrease in pressure from these reserves to space causes a plume to shoot out. Roughly 400 pounds (200 kilograms) of water vapor is lost every second in the plumes, with smaller amounts being lost as ice grains. The team calculates the water reserves must have large evaporating surfaces, or they would freeze easily and stop the plumes.

“We imagine that between the ice and the ice core there is an ocean of depth and this is somehow connected to the surface reservoir,” added Postberg.

The Cassini mission discovered Enceladus’ water-vapor and ice jets in 2005. In 2009, scientists working with the cosmic dust analyzer examined some sodium salts found in ice grains of Saturn’s E ring but the link to subsurface salt water was not definitive. The new paper analyzes three Enceladus flybys in 2008 and 2009 with the same instrument, focusing on the composition of freshly ejected plume grains. In 2008, Cassini discovered a high “density of volatile gases, water vapor, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as organic materials, some 20 times denser than expected” in geysers erupting from the moon. The icy particles hit the detector target at speeds between 15,000 and 39,000 MPH (23,000 and 63,000 KPH), vaporizing instantly. Electrical fields inside the cosmic dust analyzer separated the various constituents of the impact cloud.

“Enceladus has got warmth, water and organic chemicals, some of the essential building blocks needed for life,” said Dennis Matson in 2008, Cassini project scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

“This finding is a crucial new piece of evidence showing that environmental conditions favorable to the emergence of life can be sustained on icy bodies orbiting gas giant planets,” said Nicolas Altobelli, the European Space Agency’s project scientist for Cassini.

“If there is water in such an unexpected place, it leaves possibility for the rest of the universe,” said Postberg.

Oil prices drive new investment in clean technology

">
Oil prices drive new investment in clean technology

Monday, April 24, 2006

Investors are rushing to fund new ventures in renewable energy as Americans continue to see rising gasoline prices at the pump. The price for crude oil continues to rise to new record highs ($75 per barrel of crude oil on NYMEX as of Friday’s close). According to the results of a survey reported by the San Francisco Gate, in the 1st Quarter of 2006 investments in the clean technology sector has increased by 13% to $3.36 Billion in the US. In addition to attracting venture capital, clean technology companies are receiving a buzz from high profile investors.

Bill Gates, Founder of Microsoft, announced last week that his venture group (Cascade Investments) initiated the purchase of 25.5% ownership in Pacific Ethanol Inc. Pacific Ethanol is an ethanol production company that plans to expand operations by opening a new facility in California. Gates is not alone in high profile investments into the clean energy market, Bob Metcalfe (Founder of 3COM and Inventor of Ethernet), who acts as the managing partner of Polaris Ventures, announced the VC’s first investment into the energy market. Polaris, which manages over $3 Billion in funds, invested $6.8 million into GreenFuel Technologies Corporation of Cambridge, MA. GreenFuel Technologies is an emissions to biofuels company, that utilizes natural algae in their patented bioreactors to turn greenhouse gas emissions from power plants into rich bio fuel. Polaris’s investment into GreenFuel was part of the company’s $18 Million Series B financing round that also included a high profile venture capital investor: Draper Fisher Jurvetson. When asked about the new industry venture, Bob Metcalfe said, “Energy has got to be one of the top five problems the world faces, and it’s been frustrating to watch activists and politicians fail to solve the problem,…Now it’s time for the entrepreneurs and scientists to give it a try.”

According to the International Energy Association, demand for renewable energy fuels will more than quadruple in the next decade. The current jump in oil prices is fueling investment into this relatively new market as investors view clean technology as an emerging opportunity rather than a public relations campaign. As gasoline prices continue to rise, alternative fuels become respectively cheaper and more attractive. In his latest State of the Union Address, President Bush outlined a plan to direct new investment into ethanol production and other clean technologies. According to a poll conducted by CBS News, Americans now see gas prices as one of their top three main concerns. With pressure coming from constituents, politicians are beginning to exert pressure on new spending on renewable technology to promote energy independence. Yet another front in this debate is that of environmental concern. With global warming on the rise, and many European governments eagerly searching for a Carbon Dioxide solution, the promise of reducing these emissions by 46% (as claimed by GreenFuel’s bio reactor system) begins to resonate as a promising environmental and business opportunity.

Detoxing For Life Series Part 8) When Detoxing Eliminate Dairy}

Submitted by: Kolle Baca

This is Part 8 of a compilation of several articles to enlighten you and inspire you! I encourage you to jump in with both feet to detoxify your body, and begin enjoying all the benefits of the quality of life you were born to have!

http://kollenationunlimited.toolsrock.com/weightloss-index.html?id=2845

Body Symptoms

There may be foods that are causing negative reactions in your body, but you are not aware of it because youve been living this way for a long time. When your body is full of toxins, it is difficult, if not impossible, to pinpoint what might be the culprit to you not feeling 100%. For example, I used to drink glasses of milk every day when I was growing up. I also suffered from daily stomachaches, and thought that it was normal. One day I stopped drinking milk, and I noticed that I stopped having stomachaches. Just like that.

The Story Of Milk

Have you ever considered the fact that we are the only mammalian species that drink milk after infancy? Were also the only mammalian species that drink the milk from another creature! Sounds awful, doesnt it? No one can dispute the health benefits of a mothers milk, but its composition is specifically and heavenly designed to meet the nutritional needs of its own offspring. For example, cows milk contains an average of three times the calcium content of human milk. This, in turn, can create metabolic disturbances causing bone health issues in humans that can be quite detrimental to your health. You are simply not meant to drink the milk of another creature!

Milk -vs- Calcium

It is important to understand that milk and calcium are widely used interchangeably. It has been suggested that you need three glasses of milk (for the calcium content) each day for good bone health. As a calcium source, the pasteurized milk you purchase in the grocery store has little, if any, nutritional value. As a matter of fact, you can intake more calcium in a cup of organic broccoli or leafy greens than you can in a glass of milk. Also, most humans around the world cannot easily digest milk.

The Dairy Myth

The widely accepted health benefits linked to milk and milk products are an amazing public relations feat that has brain washed entire generations unquestionably. The milk you purchase at your local supermarket is processed, or a processed food. They have been highly pasteurized, eliminating key amino acids and enzymes. What we are left with are dairy products with only a 30% calcium absorption rate. Whey protein, which is what is left over when making cheese from milk, is the most abundant, popular, and cheapest form of protein available. It is thought to help build muscle, but in actuality, it is very difficult to digest.

Why Eliminate Dairy?

Dairy is HIGHLY ACIDIC. Like any other animal derived protein-rich food, milk has a positive potential renal acid load (PRAL). When you drink milk, it triggers a biological reaction in your body to protect the kidneys from the acid. It does this by utilizing calcium stores, sacrificing bone density, in order to neutralize the damaging acid protein before it can reach your kidneys. In a nutshell, your body will use the most readily available source of acid neutralizer, which happens to be in your bones! Heres the kicker: Even though milk contains calcium, it depletes your bones of this crucial mineral. Crrrrrraaaaaaazy!

Eliminating Dairy Is Only Part Of A Complete Detoxing Program

There are many detoxing programs available for you to choose from. There is often a misconception about what a detoxing program is. Some folks think it is some sort of liquid diet or fasting. Some people think that if they eat healthy foods for three days itll do the trick. Nope. You have to give your body time to first eliminate all the toxins, and secondly, to free your body from harmful addictions and have it acclimate to its new state of well-being. I recommend a four-week program. Be extremely strict, i.e. dairy-free, gluten-free, coffee-free, GMO free, soy-free, sugar-free, artificial sweeteners-free, etc.

Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of PETA, on animal rights and the film about her life

">
Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of PETA, on animal rights and the film about her life

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

Last night HBO premiered I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA. Since its inception, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has made headlines and raised eyebrows. They are almost single-handedly responsible for the movement against animal testing and their efforts have raised the suffering animals experience in a broad spectrum of consumer goods production and food processing into a cause célèbre.

PETA first made headlines in the Silver Spring monkeys case, when Alex Pacheco, then a student at George Washington University, volunteered at a lab run by Edward Taub, who was testing neuroplasticity on live monkeys. Taub had cut sensory ganglia that supplied nerves to the monkeys’ fingers, hands, arms, legs; with some of the monkeys, he had severed the entire spinal column. He then tried to force the monkeys to use their limbs by exposing them to persistent electric shock, prolonged physical restraint of an intact arm or leg, and by withholding food. With footage obtained by Pacheco, Taub was convicted of six counts of animal cruelty—largely as a result of the monkeys’ reported living conditions—making them “the most famous lab animals in history,” according to psychiatrist Norman Doidge. Taub’s conviction was later overturned on appeal and the monkeys were eventually euthanized.

PETA was born.

In the subsequent decades they ran the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty against Europe’s largest animal-testing facility (footage showed staff punching beagle puppies in the face, shouting at them, and simulating sex acts while taking blood samples); against Covance, the United State’s largest importer of primates for laboratory research (evidence was found that they were dissecting monkeys at its Vienna, Virginia laboratory while the animals were still alive); against General Motors for using live animals in crash tests; against L’Oreal for testing cosmetics on animals; against the use of fur for fashion and fur farms; against Smithfield Foods for torturing Butterball turkeys; and against fast food chains, most recently against KFC through the launch of their website kentuckyfriedcruelty.com.

They have launched campaigns and engaged in stunts that are designed for media attention. In 1996, PETA activists famously threw a dead raccoon onto the table of Anna Wintour, the fur supporting editor-in-chief of Vogue, while she was dining at the Four Seasons in New York, and left bloody paw prints and the words “Fur Hag” on the steps of her home. They ran a campaign entitled Holocaust on your Plate that consisted of eight 60-square-foot panels, each juxtaposing images of the Holocaust with images of factory farming. Photographs of concentration camp inmates in wooden bunks were shown next to photographs of caged chickens, and piled bodies of Holocaust victims next to a pile of pig carcasses. In 2003 in Jerusalem, after a donkey was loaded with explosives and blown up in a terrorist attack, Newkirk sent a letter to then-PLO leader Yasser Arafat to keep animals out of the conflict. As the film shows, they also took over Jean-Paul Gaultier‘s Paris boutique and smeared blood on the windows to protest his use of fur in his clothing.

The group’s tactics have been criticized. Co-founder Pacheco, who is no longer with PETA, called them “stupid human tricks.” Some feminists criticize their campaigns featuring the Lettuce Ladies and “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ads as objectifying women. Of their Holocaust on a Plate campaign, Anti-Defamation League Chairman Abraham Foxman said “The effort by PETA to compare the deliberate systematic murder of millions of Jews to the issue of animal rights is abhorrent.” (Newkirk later issued an apology for any hurt it caused). Perhaps most controversial amongst politicians, the public and even other animal rights organizations is PETA’s refusal to condemn the actions of the Animal Liberation Front, which in January 2005 was named as a terrorist threat by the United States Department of Homeland Security.

David Shankbone attended the pre-release screening of I Am An Animal at HBO’s offices in New York City on November 12, and the following day he sat down with Ingrid Newkirk to discuss her perspectives on PETA, animal rights, her responses to criticism lodged against her and to discuss her on-going life’s work to raise human awareness of animal suffering. Below is her interview.

This exclusive interview features first-hand journalism by a Wikinews reporter. See the collaboration page for more details.

Building collapses, leaving four dead in Hong Kong

Monday, February 1, 2010

A decades-old building collapsed along Ma Tau Wai Road in Hong Kong at about 1:30pm on Friday, local time. That building was located at 45J, Ma Tau Wai Road in Hung Hom. A shop on its ground floor was undergoing renovations when the building collapsed. The street was full of dust afterwards. Firefighters arrived at the scene to search survivors and they asked residents in the buildings nearby to evacuate the area. Those buildings included 45G and 45H.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang called for an investigation into the cause of the building collapse. He aimed at preventing similar incidents. The government required all old buildings with similar structures to undergo inspection, according to Secretary for Development Carrie Lam.

The government has confirmed that four people were dead in the incident. Rescue efforts ended on Saturday morning when the government confirmed that no one was missing. Lam visited the scene on Saturday afternoon and sought advice from the police and Buildings Department. The police has started its investigation into the incident. Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung said that the government would do its best to meet the victims’ needs.

The collapsed building was more than 50 years old. The government had inspected its five-storey structure before the incident and had ordered repairs. After the tragedy, the government announced that it would inspect buildings older than 50 years in one month. The government has restricted access to buildings at 45G and 45H as they were in danger.

General Contractors: Denver Leads The Way For Leed Industrial Facilities

byAlma Abell

Industrial facilities are a vital aspect to our economy. However, these facilities operate on a much larger scale than other business as they run 24 hours per day, seven days a week. As a result, industrial facilities are responsible for 30 percent of the United States total energy consumption and four percent of the nation’s domestic water usage. With the cost of consumption so high, many are looking to lower their environmental impact to increase their bottom line. This has led to a large demand for LEED general contractors. Denver industrial facilities need more sustainable construction, design, architecture, and engineering across all manufacturing industries.

LEED General Contractors: Denver Promotes Sustainability

As of today, there are more than 1,755 LEED-certified industrial facilities throughout the world according to LEED in Motion’s Industrial Facility report. That number is expected to drastically increase as there are currently more than 2,700 registered industrial facilities. As more and more industrial warehouses, manufactures, and others in the industry turn to pursue an LEED certification, general contractors will be on the frontline to offer the engaging, practical strategies needed to become more resource efficient.

With an LEED certification holding the potential to triple the bottom line of businesses, the environment, and profits, industrial facilities throughout the nation will be prioritizing their mission to become more environmentally-friendly.

As LEED general contractors, Denver construction company, iiCONG Construction Group, helps businesses make good business decisions with sustainable building. Using the most advanced and effective LEED strategies, industrial facilities have the potential to save millions as green building pays for itself over time.

Zimbabwe Air Marshal shot

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

The chief of the Zimbabwe Air Force has been shot in the arm in an apparent assassination attempt. Air Marshal Perence Shiri, 53, is recovering in a local hospital.

Officials blame the incident on terrorists and political opponents. They also say that the assailant was trained in Botswana.

“The attack on Air Marshal Shiri appears to be a build-up of terror attacks targeting high profile persons, government officials, government establishments and public transportation systems,” said Home Affairs Minister, Kembo Mohadi.

Shiri is a strong ally of President Mugabe. Many believe that Shiri masterminded the intimidation campaign used against the Movement for Democratic Change supporters during the 2008 presidential elections.
